The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has partnered with SIDEARM Sports, a leader in collegiate athletics web solutions, to launch a completely redesigned FIGHTINGILLINI.com on July 1, 2015.
Illini alumni and fans around the world will experience many new features in this interactive site, such as an adaptive design that fits any screen size from a laptop, to a tablet, to a mobile phone. Visitors will also have easy access to download, print, and share their favorite FIGHTING ILLINI game schedules or view upcoming events. The site is also customizable to user preferences, allowing the fan to get a one-stop look at the events and news they care most about.
"The experience that we share with Illini around the globe is a critical communications tool not only for DIA, but for the University as a whole," shared Director of Athletics Mike Thomas. "Athletics is a conduit from which many Illini connect back to the campus, and our ability to effectively share all of the outstanding things that go on here every day is an exciting mission and all of our external unit is motivated to give our visitors the best experience in college athletics".
Most visibly on the new FIGHTINGILLINI.com is the enhanced photo presentation that brings U of I fans closer to the action with high-quality action photos of our world class student-athletes. Live and on-demand video and audio produced by FIGHTING ILLINI Productions and Learfield Sports will be available for fans to watch select events and interviews on the site, free of charge.
Over 60 social media channels are now streamlined throughout the website so fans can access up-to-the-minute news and photos from all the FIGHTING ILLINI sports Twitter and Instagram accounts, featuring direct communication links from coaches, administrators, and teams.
"Our digital platforms are critical in being able to reach prospective recruits and fans alike," says Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations Mike Waddell. "Between our partnership with SIDEARM and our creative and digital teams' consistent production of quality programming, we will engage with a strong inventory of content like never before in support of our coaches and their recruiting efforts to bring the best and brightest student-athletes to the University of Illinois."
In an effort to provide the most in-depth statistics for all 21 varsity teams, the new FIGHTINGILLINI.com features personalized photos, videos, news, and statistics on every student-athlete bio. Select sports will include live scoring updates and audio/video integration on home and individual sport pages, as well as in-depth, sortable season statistics categories. Additionally, the language selector functionality allows visitors to translate the site into the language of their preference using the latest Google technology.
"The addition of the University of Illinois to the SIDEARM Sports family is a major achievement." said SIDEARM Sports President and CEO Jeff Rubin. "We hope the members, supporters, alumni, fans, student-athletes and staff at Illinois enjoy all the features that site has to offer, including a customized experience and full integration with Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. The athletics staff at the University of Illinois have been tremendous to work with and we look forward to working with them to enhance the site with innovative features throughout our relationship."
In addition to the renovated website is the new and improved FIGHTING ILLINI app from Yinzcam, the Learfield/SIDEARM preferred college sports mobile application provider. Fans are encouraged to download the app for free from iTunes and Google Play to follow all FIGHTING ILLINI sports news and updates throughout the season.
The official website of DIA, FIGHTINGILLINI.com welcomed 18,621,367 visitors in 2014-15 who logged more than 2,653,682 page views.
University of Illinois Athletics recommends that fans update their internet browser to its most recent release to enjoy the full FIGHTINGILLINI.com experience.
