Matt Schaub: Latest News, Rumors and Speculation on Free-Agent QB
Veteran signal-caller Matt Schaub remains a free agent, but the quarterback is one of the more viable backup options remaining on the market, and he could find a team sooner rather than later.
Schaub, 33, accumulated just 10 pass attempts last season with the Oakland Raiders as rookie Derek Carr's backup, completing five passes for 57 yards while throwing two interceptions. He was cut this offseason by the team.
Before joining the Raiders in 2014, Schaub spent seven years with the Houston Texans after he was traded to the team from the Atlanta Falcons before the 2007 season. In 88 starts with the Texans, he threw for 23,221 yards, 124 touchdowns and 78 interceptions while making the Pro Bowl twice.
While Schaub no longer appears to be an NFL starter, he's an experienced backup to have on the roster and could help to mentor a younger quarterback. As backup quarterbacks go, he's a solid option in the right system for a team that needs to add depth at the position.
