Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio helped his team forge and impressive outcome in last weeks game as the Oakland Raiders pevailed over the Denver Broncos.
A hard fought game, it played as a physical "in the trenches" kind of matchup. It's the exact kind of game Del Rio's coaching ethos is all about.
Such a telling moment, post game, was captured on film by the Raiders website.
the enthusiasm was palpable as Del Rio was clearly pleased. "What a fantastic effort . . . 60 minutes, boys,'' Del Rio said. "I'll tell you what I'm so proud of each and every man in here. The question was really simple. Do we believe? Hell of an effort. Grit everywhere. Tough, hard-fought, well-deserved. It'll be a great flight home."
it was the defenses game! The offense struggled ending the firs thlf with negeative 12 yards. thats right they headed into the lockerroom at the half with minus yards. it was a bit of a more balanced effort in the second halg thought with Derek Carr connecting for a couple touchdown passes in the second half.
The Raiders defense held the Broncos to 4 Brandon McManus field goals which is no easy feat against a talented team especailly when your forced to be on the filed so much for the first half. the defense continued to play exceptionally well by shutting down Denvers offense in the second half. Khalil Mack was on fire in the second half with a total of 5 sacks.
the Raiders were struggling in the first half enough to give any coach fits but Del Rio kept it together knowing that a 21-0 halftime score was certainly not indicitive of what the final could be. The players noted that Del Rio was remaining calm and steadfast wich definitely kept the teams confidence and hopes up.
"Jack came in really upbeat, smiling. He asked everybody, 'Do we believe in one another?' and everybody screamed, 'Yeah,' '' safety Charles Woodson said. "In the second half we played like we believed in one another and each phase played a role in the win.''
Likewise Khalil Mack, was very aware of what his coach was providing the team. "He knew we could make that push in the second half,'' Mack said. "He believed in us. Coach Jack don't let anything much get to him. He keeps his confidence, keeps his poise. He's got a swagger about him. Just knowing he believes in us gave us that push". "Coach Jack, man. You talk about a leader. He's a great leader for us, man. It was big for us to get this one.''
Del Rio made his instructions clear and simple for the team going into the second half. "The message was, 'I believe. We believe. Let's go out and show that we believe with our effort,''' Del Rio said. "We came here to play a full 60 minutes, and let's make sure we give them a full 60 minutes. And I thought we did that.''
in the end the Raiders offense struggle with the running game. Although a rushing touchdown by Latavius Murray was negated by a penalty he manage only 27 yards on 16 carries with the longest gain being 7 yards. Derek Carr did connect for two passing tds with Seth Roberts and Michael Rivera. he threw no interceptions either which never hurts.
But the day was the Oakland Raiders Defensive units and it was a pleasure to watch!
